Jane Dunn began her career in the Thoroughbred business in the show rings and hunt fields of Middleburg, Va. Her success in the show ring as a young rider soon led to training for clients; by the time she was sixteen years old, she was not only exercising and legging up show horses and field hunters for clients but also showing young horses for commercial hunter barns to improve their value for sale purposes.
Her involvement with Thoroughbred race horses began at the Middleburg Training Center, galloping horses for the prominent Virginia trainer Barbara Graham. In 1973, she moved to California, working as an exercise rider at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar while she became a licensed Thoroughbred trainer ultimately holding  credentials in California, Arkansas, Kentucky and New York.
In 1984, Jane became the Manager of Delta Farms in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Under her direction, Delta became a leading facility for the breaking and training of young horses and a highly-regarded lay-up and rehabilitation facility for both Thoroughbred race horses and top-class show horses.  During her tenure at Delta, Jane served as the racing manager and racing advisor for a number of prominent owners who raced in California.
As training facilities in Southern California became increasingly pressured by encroachment from residential development, and rising operating costs, Jane sought to relocate. In 1993, she bought the historic Holly Hill Training Center, near Charleston, South Carolina and moved her training operation to the east coast. Since then, over 1,298 Thoroughbreds have come through the training center under Jane’s watchful eye and benefited from her 40 years of experience in the educating of young horses for racing success.

   IRENE WALTERS, Farm Office Manager

Irene Walters was born and raised five miles from the Holly Hill Training Center. She remembers her parents bringing her to the training track to watch the horses work. Four decades later, she sits at the nerve center of the business she once observed from the rail as a child.

Irene manages many of the complex details of the care and training of Thoroughbreds. She is a familiar and friendly voice to veterinarians, hay and feed suppliers, van drivers, trainers, farm managers – and, of course, owners. Irene strives to never let a phone call go unanswered, a request unfulfilled. Whether it’s calling to confirm that your stakes winning hopeful has arrived safely or serving you a warm slice of banana nut bread on a cold February morning, Irene represents the pride and competence that is the Holly Hill Training Center.
