     SEGMENT (f, 3, Algorithms--Detach, by Unbridled) graduated in a muddy romp second out at this venue June 20 before finishing an even third July 31. Segment, the 1-5 favorite, was part of a three-way duel with Garci (Super Saver) and Wild Appointment (Grand Appointment) through solid early fractions. While Wild Appointment started to fall back in the stretch, Garci and Segment remained locked in battle. However, Segment proved gamest late to post a 1 3/4-length victory over Garci.

    MGSW SYNCHRONY (Tapit)  added more black type for owner/breeder Pin Oak Stud and trainer Michael Stidham running third in the G3- Arlington H. the 5 year old horse is approaching 1/2 a million in earnings. Last out his was 3rd in the Old Forester Turf Classic Stakes (Gr. 1 and before that he won the Muniz Memorial Handicap (Gr. 2) and the Fair Grounds Handicap (Gr. 3).

I think the experience really helped him," winning trainer Graham Motion said. "He's a very easy horse, he's just not a real overly aggressive horse. But I was very happy with how he ran. The two turns really helped him today." He was right as today as a three year old, the Pin Oak homebred won again this time going a mile at Presque Isle Downs. He doubled his earnings to over $50,000.

    Laurel at 1 1/16 on the turf:  ZESTFUL (c, 2, Ghostzapper--Sweet Relish {SW & GSP, $196,630}, by Smoke Glacken) showed some late interest to finish sixth on debut here Sept. 15, then stretched to two turns with a distant second Oct. 30. Adding Lasix this time, the 4-1 shot settled in fourth for most of the way and was under a ride on the far turn. He set his sights on the leader at the top of the stretch and took off from there to graduate by 2 3/4 lengths. Lonely Weekend (Tiznow) was second.

    COMMEND (r, 4, War Front--Praise, by Mr. Prospector), a halfbrother to solid sires Congrats (A.P. Indy), GSW & MGISP, $998,960 and Flatter (A.P. Indy), GSP, $148,815, delivered as the heavy 2-5 favorite here. Coupled with Vici (War Front), who exchanged blows through swift early fractions of :21.43 and :43.57, Commend sat a perfect trip tucked in just behind the leaders. Jose Ortiz tipped Commend out three deep at the top of the stretch and he kicked on in the lane to get the better of his entrymate by a length. It was another nose back to End Play in third.

Coming in with a good-looking series of works, including a bullet breeze from the gate at Belmont Oct. 17 in 1:00 3/5, the dark bay was crushed in the wagering throughout before going off as the narrow 14-5 second choice. Away a bit slowly, Elate moved through between horses early to sit second off of lukewarm favorite Wake Island (War Front) through fractions of :23.48 and :47.42. Moving menacingly after that one midway on the turn, the homebred took over passing three-quarters in 1:12.75 and drew away with every stride in the lane, romping by 12 1/2 lengths.     Donnie Von Hemmel has unveiled two exciting two year olds, one for Pin Oat and one for Adele B. Dilschneider. Pin Oak's Tapit colt  SYNCHRONY took charge with just over a furlong to run at Keeneland and cleared to win by 3 3/4 lengths  in his seond start.

    At Remington Park,  Adele B. Dilschneider's Stroll gelding RESIDE sat two deep in this first two turn attempt and was waiting for a cue entering the far turn. Reside took command with less than a quarter to travel and, given a couple taps, sailed home a cozy two-length winner in his second start.
